2024 JUNE, ALBERTO CAMPO BAEZA RECEIVES THE COACM LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
On 7 June 2024 the COACM presented the awards corresponding to the 2nd Castilla-La Mancha architecture and urbanism Awards. The gala was held at the Paleontological Museum of Cuenca, which was attended by more than 200 people. The honoured winner for his entire professional career was the architect Alberto Campo Baeza.
The dean of the COACM referred to the fact that the awards “distinguish quality architecture, which includes all the needs that arise right now, not only in design, but also in the use and enhancement of other factors that we architects include in our work”. Marta Vall-llosera, president of the CSCAE (Council of Spanish Architects’ Associations) first congratulated the COACM for organising the awards and stressed the importance of this type of recognition, “because they give a dimension of the architectural panorama of the region and help us to make visible the values of architecture, what it contributes to society in terms of sustainability, habitability and another series of aspects that have a great influence on people’s daily lives”.
Alberto Campo was the honoured winner for his entire professional career. Modest and concise, the architect pointed out that the awards “are more the result of the generosity of the juries than of the merits of the winners”. He also wanted to highlight the ability of architects to stand out in other arts. “Fernando Colomo or Juan Sebastián Bollaín, known as film directors, are also architects,” he said. To end his speech, he dedicated some beautiful words to Cuenca, “a marvellous city that makes you want to come and live in”. Thus, the honorary prize-winner ended his speech with a “Long live Cuenca, with Gustavo Torner at the head”.
