2024 JULY, MIGUEL ESCRIG’S PHD THESIS ON THE GRANADA SAVINGS BANK
In 2019, Alberto Campo Baeza donated all his original material, drawings, notebooks, plans and models, to the Library of the Madrid School of Architecture, ETSAM-UPM. And the more time goes by, the happier he is about this donation. Because of the the attentive care that the librarians of the ETSAM, with Susana Feito at the head, have put into this donation.
Subsequently we created a grant with which the young architect Miguel Escrig Ferrando, dedicated himself to digitising and ordering all the material from Campo Baeza’s studio, which includes thousands of drawings: 37 G notebooks (large size), 6 M notebooks (medium size) and 85 P notebooks (small size), as well as the complete projects, including models and material in various formats. Everything is now conveniently posted on the website of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, available to all students and researchers. Alberto Campo Baeza is happy about this donation and continues to donate his entire architectural production there.
Miguel Escrig decided to do his PhD dissertation on the work of Campo Baeza. Under the suggestive title of ‘Architectural design is Research. The built ideas of Campo Baeza. The Caja de Ahorros de Granada case study’, Miguel Escrig read his thesis on 22 July 2024 at the ETSAM-UPM. The work has been awarded the highest mark.
The thesis was supervised by professors Jesus Aparicio Guisado and Alejandro Cervilla García. The examining board was chaired by Manuel Blanco Lage, director of the School of Architecture of Madrid and professors Ignacio Vicens y Hualde of the ETSAM, Tomás García Piriz of the ETSA of Granada, Alejandro Gómez of the ETSA of Zaragoza and Maria Pilar Vettori of the Politecnico di Milano.
The central theme of the thesis is the building constructed for the Caja General de Ahorros de Granada, the largest building by Campo Baeza.
The Thesis will soon be available at the UPM Digital Archive.
