2023 SEPTEMBER, ROBERT OLNICK PAVILION OPENING
The Robert Olnick Pavilion in Cold Spring, New York, opened in September 2023. The new building, designed by architects Alberto Campo Baeza and Miguel Quismondo, is an extension of the Magazzino Italian Art Museum.
The pavilion contains several temporary exhibition rooms, a gallery displaying Carlo Scarpa’s Murano glass collection and a café opening onto the garden. The most special space will be dedicated to temporary exhibitions, a white cube crossed by light. An isotropic space that has the same characteristics in all directions. A white cube of 10x10x10 m, perforated at its corners with holes of 2×2 m, so that the sun always has a place to enter.
Campo Baeza, when reading Stefan Zweig’s The Mystery of Artistic Creation, recognised here the “ray of eternity” that the writer tells us sometimes rests on an artist’s creation. And that seems to have happened.
