LESSONS FROM CAMPO BAEZA
Víctor Sánchez Taffur
Caracas, VENEZUELA
The book Lessons from CAMPO BAEZA, by Professor Víctor Sánchez Taffur, architect and professor at the School of Architecture of the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, has been published. The book, in Spanish and English, is published by the Universidad Central de Venezuela, FB Libros and Collectania. The text is based on several interviews of the author with Campo Baeza and on texts taken from his books. It is a simple publication written for architects and architecture students.

The author proposes a synthesis of ten lessons – exquisitely illustrated – that give an account of the ideas of the Spanish master and that derive from a serene and didactic dialogue, a free and honest discussion on fundamental themes in the formation and practice of our discipline.
The interview format leads the conversation towards a kind of pleasant discussion – like the encounter between Phaedrus and Socrates in Valéry’s well-known Eupalinos – which, without sacrificing an ounce of eloquence in exchange for unnecessary words, leaves us with a series of essential and profoundly formative propositions on the table.
This magnificent text achieves two unavoidable objectives: it adds to and improves the available literature on Campo Baeza and, perhaps most importantly, it constitutes an excellent study guide for those of us who aspire to improve our understanding of a profession as fascinating and sometimes inscrutable as architecture.
