Alberto Campo Baeza , Hon. FAIA

The architect Alberto Campo Baeza has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the AIA.

The conferral ceremony will take place on June 7 at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, during the AIA Conference on Architecture 2019.

The AIA American Institute of Architects is a professional organization founded in 1857 that represents the interests of North American architects, as the CSCA Superior Council of Colleges of Architects does in Spain. The AIA currently has more than 90,000 members. Outstanding architects are selected to form part of the College of Fellows of the Institute and are awarded the title of FAIA.

Alberto Campo Baeza has been Professor of Projects at the Technical School of Architecture in Madrid since 1986 and is one of Spain’s most prestigious architects, recognized both nationally and internationally. He has taught at the ETH Zurich, the EPFL Lausanne, the Penn University School of Architecture in Philadelphia and the Catholic University of America in Washington, in addition to many other schools of architecture around the world.

His best known work is the Caja de Granada, for which he received numerous prizes, including the Torroja Award. He has built works all over the world, such as Olnick Spanu House in New York, for example, and a Nursery for Benetton in Venice; also in Granada the Museum of Memory of Andalucía and in Zamora the offices for the Regional Government of Castile León, which received the international Architecture in Stone Award in Verona.

His work has been exhibited in such emblematic places as the Basilica of Palladio in Vicenza, the Basilica of Santa Irene in Istanbul, the Crown Hall of Mies Van der Rohe in Chicago, the New York Urban Center and the MAXXI in Rome, the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York, and in many other places.

He has received such important awards as the Tessenow Gold Medal in Hamburg and the Arnold Brunner of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York. He is a Fellow of the RIBA in London. And in 2018, he was named Doctor Honoris Causa of the University CEU San Pablo, as well as having been awarded the Attolini prize in Mexico and the Piranesi in Rome.
